About the Artist

Deborah Van Horn McGhee

Award-winning artist, Deb Van Horn McGhee, has been painting for over 25 years. Her first “canvas” was her own home. Her desire to own original art, not an affordable option then, became her motivation. “As an artist, I paint what I want to see and hope others will see the beauty as I do."

In the beginning, Deb drew on the elements of design she first learned while earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design at Ohio University and her love of art. She has taken many classes from various local artists and incorporates tips and techniques from all of them in every painting. “I don’t have one specific look or interest. I enjoy many different artistic styles and I don’t want to limit what I paint.”

While much of Deb's work is strongly influenced by Impressionism the emphasis is often on color. “I sometimes feel like I am as much a colorist as a painter. Color is so important to me. The dance of certain colors together can be the focal point of a painting. I am drawn to strong vibrant colors. “

Deb works in various media including Watercolor, Acrylic, Oil Pastel, and Oil. Paintings often evolve as she is working on them. “I will add or subtract throughout the painting process.  I might start with watercolor and end with a multi-media painting because I have added acrylic or oil to get the effect I am searching for.”

Deb lives in Canton, Ohio. She is also a Licensed Social Worker with a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work.
